Tri-County Triangle Trail

Goals

Short Term Goals:

The completion of paving the 5.8 mile section of trail between Fairview Rd in Fayette County and Austin in Ross County (map).  Completing this section is a high priority.  The Ross County Park District has received a Clean Ohio Grant grant and with financial support from Tri-County Triangle Trail this section will be paved by early 2011!

Also a high priority project for Tri-County Triangle Trail  is completion of a 2.4 mile section that connects Washington Court House to the trail head at Robinson Rd (map).   Contact the Washington City Manager for more information.

Tri-County Triangle Trail and the Clinton County Park District has secured a contract to purchase the DP&L right of way west from New Holland through Washington Court house and Southwest to the Clinton County line.  A Clean Ohio grant was approved in August 2010 has been approved to purchase this right-of-way!  This is a significant development which will connect Wilmington, Chillicothe, Circleville and Washington Court House to the Little Miami Trail hub in Xenia.  From this hub users can travel to Cincinnati, Dayton, Yellow Springs, London, Columbus including the Ohio-Erie and Little Miami Trail system.  The Pickaway County Park District has been funded to purchase the DP&L right-of-way from New Holland to Circleville.

Long Term Goals:

Completion of the 13.4 mile section from Washington Court House west to connect to the completed Jamestown Connector at the Greene county line (map) which will connect the Tri-County Trail to Xenia and the Little Miami Recreational Trail, Ohio-Erie Recreational Trail and the Dayton Connector.  Thus this link will provide access to all Miami Valley trails.  This right-of-way was purchased by the City of Washington with the assistance of the Greene County Park District and a Recreational Trails Grant, however an entity to develop the trail has yet to be identified.

The importance of completing these trail sections are shown in context of this map of Southwest Ohio Recreational Trails courtesy of Jim Dressler, Greenway Connections, 223 W. Davis Street, Yellow Springs, Ohio 45378.  Jim is a retired member of the Greene County Park District.  With these sections complete Fayette and Ross counties will be connected to one of the most extensive and scenic regional trail systems in the United States!

Completion of a recreational-multi-use trail from Circleville to Washington Court House and southwest to Wilmington.

Summary:

Funding for recreational trails has become more limited due to economic conditions.  However there are a few sources of funds that are available.  It is vital that you contact your local, state and federal government officials (contact info) and encourage them to support and fund the trail construction and maintenance.

Washington Court House has the potential to become a major multi-use trail hub similar to the success of Xenia, one of the finest examples of multi-use trail systems in America!

The map below shows the how the trail system looks and status of each of the sections.
